This book was first published in 2001 in Poland in a series of Baltic-Pontic studies, published by University of Poznan in English (Viktor I. Klochko Weaponry of societies of the Northern Pontic Culture Circle: 5000 – 700 BC, Poznań, 2001 (Baltic-Pontic Studies, vol. 1910, ISBN 83-86094-09-5; ISSN 1231-0344). Proposed now Ukrainian text is revised, expanded and updated with new materials and ideas.
The monograph deals with the results of long-time research of arms of ancient societies in Ukraine from the Neolithic – Bronze Age and the Cimmerian period. Paid attention to the typology of different weapons, and analyzed the chronological aspects of their development against the background of cultural and historical processes of the time. The problems of weapons of subjects, including technology of their making, nature of raw bases, the physical properties of the material. Studied indigenous and innovative influences on the emergence and evolution of new inventions. A characteristic properties of different types of combat and convergence of different weapons. In general, weaponry items considered as a historical source, that is important for reconstructive analysis of separate military and historical events and the entire cultural-historical and ethno-cultural models.
