Abstract
The e-book offered to the reader is a summary of the results of research into Mayan hieroglyphic writing over the past three and a half decades. This was a true breakthrough in historical scholarship, which the author witnessed and, to some extent, participated in.
The book briefly outlines the history of research into Mayan hieroglyphic script and describes in general the characteristic features and particularities of this writing system. Based on readings and translations of hieroglyphic texts from the Classic Period (3rd – 9th centuries AD), used together with ethnohistorical sources, archaeological and ethnographic data, the views of the ancient Maya on the world order, their mythology, the way of life of the social elite, and ritual practices are reconstructed. The reader is offered essays on the history of the most important Mayan polities of the Classic Period: Mutul-Tikal, Kanul-Calakmul, Baakul-Palenque, Sa’al-Naranjo, Pachan-Yaxchilan, Xukuup-Copan.
The appendices contain a chronology of the rulers of the major Classic Maya states and a selected bibliography. The e-book is illustrated with materials from the Internet.

El libro electrónico propuesto al lector es un resumen de los resultados de la investigación sobre la escritura jeroglífica maya durante las últimas tres décadas y media. Este fue un verdadero avance en la ciencia histórica, del que el autor fue testigo y en el que, en cierta medida, participó.
El libro describe brevemente la historia de la investigación sobre la escritura jeroglífica maya y describe en general los rasgos y características de este sistema de escritura. A partir de lecturas y traducciones de textos jeroglíficos del Periodo Clásico (siglos III – IX d.C.), utilizados junto con fuentes etnohistóricas, datos arqueológicos y etnográficos, se reconstruyen la cosmovisión de los antiguos mayas, su mitología, la forma de vida de la élite social y las prácticas rituales. Se ofrecen al lector ensayos sobre la historia de los centros políticos mayas más importantes del Periodo Clásico: Mutul-Tikal, Kanul-Calakmul, Baakul-Palenque, Sa’al-Naranjo, Pachan-Yaxchilán, Xukuup-Copán.
Los apéndices contienen una cronología de los gobernantes de los principales estados mayas del Clásico y una bibliografía seleccionada. El libro electrónico está ilustrado con materiales de Internet.
